ITANAGAR, Aug 16: The NSS cell of NERIST organised the fresher’s orientation programme in its auditorium yesterday. This academic year, 220 students enrolled to NSS. The highlights of the orientation programme were motivational talks, student’s presentation and award distribution ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Director NERIST Prof. P. K. Das recalled his earlier days as a NSS volunteer. He emphasized that the present day youths need to play a critical role in enhancing the image of the nation. He called upon all the students to keep the campus and its surrounding neat and clean.

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti organised free medical camps in Changlang and Lohit districts recently.
A total of nine camps were organised in Kharsang, Miao, Bordumsa, Diyun and Mahadevpur circle. Two mobile medical units of Arun Jyoti simultaneously conducted these camps where 976 patients were examined and medicines were distributed.

‘No solution without sovereignty
& integration: says NSCN
DIMAPUR, Aug 16: NSCN (IM) General Secretary Th. Muivah said on Friday (Aug 14th) there can be “no solution whatsoever” without fulfilling the two core issues of “sovereignty” and “integration” of Naga inhabited areas.
“...Without integration there will be no solution whatsoever…don’t doubt, we are standing for integration at any cost,” the NSCN (IM) leader stated in his address as chief guest at the 69th Naga Independence Day celebration held at the NSCN (IM) council headquarters Hebron, in the outskirts of Dimapur, reports The Morung Express.
Muivah termed reports that the NSCN (IM) had given up on sovereignty and integration as propaganda by vested interests who are trying to manipulate the situation. “God knows how many times we have been talking about this (sovereignty and integration). Keeping the Nagas divided, can there be a solution? If this is not respected, then there can be no solution,” he said.
Muivah said the NSCN had made it clear to Government of India that if a solution is to be arrived at, then the latter has to honour the wishes of the Naga people and that India should not always try to please others (states or communities) at the expense of the Nagas.
He said even the Indian leaders have understood the position of the NSCN (IM) on integration and assured to “work out on that” despite practical difficulties.

ITANAGAR, Aug 16: Pointing out that development is not possible without peace, the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Saturday said, “It is the duty of my government to ensure a peaceful atmosphere through effective law and order management while at the same time, taking the goals of development to all sections of the society” as Arunachal Pradesh celebrated the 69th Independence Day.
Chief Minister sought constructive suggestions from the citizens in preparing a vision to face multiple challenges.
Addressing a mammoth gathering after taking salute of an impressive march past at Indira Gandhi Park here, Tuki listed the challenges as poverty, illiteracy, diseases, unemployment and social problems.
“Arunachal is one of the first states in India to take steps to evolve Vision 2030 aimed at setting clear goals with introspection to set the future planning. We have to work together if we are to develop and develop first. Hard work, unity and sincerity are the ingredients for success,” Tuki said.
Terming the August 4 Pawan Hans chopper crash that killed Tirap DC Kamlesh Joshi, a 2009 IAS officer, pilots M S Brar and Rajeev Hoskote, as a trying time for the state, Tuki conveyed his deepest condolence to the bereaved families.

Move to include villages opposed

DAPORIJO, Aug 16: Public in Upper Subansiri district have expressed their strong opposition to the reported move for inclusion of a number of villages of the district in the proposed Kamle district.
Recently the villagers of Ligu, Liruk, Niji, Kaat Rijo, Don, Hangkar, Yitor, Pobo including the HGB, GBs, PRI members, senior citizens and intellectuals in a meeting strongly condemned the move and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding not to include their villages in the proposed Kamle district. The meeting further decided to meet the Chief Minister to discuss the issue and express their strong opposition to the proposed move.
The aggrieved public said that the move for inclusion of their villages in the new district have been taken without their consent.
“We have never been informed and called for public opinion for the creation of Kamle
district, then how come it is possible for any authority or individual group to decide
our jurisdiction of administration without our consent”, a senior citizen said. They
also informed that, they have an easy access to Upper Subansiri district administration
in terms of communication, medical facility, schools, marketing facility and administrative
convenience. Their villages are hardly 2-
This move is nothing but a politically motivated one, opined another public.
The villagers have threatened to launch democratic movement if their demand was not met.

Police still clueless in teacher death case: ATSU

DAPORIJO, Aug 16: Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) led by its vice president Dr. Tara Nayam submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Tanga Byaling appealing for grant of ex gratia payment to the family of Kali Bulo, who was allegedly murdered in Mechukha in the first week of this month.
Meanwhile, a team of All Tagin Students Union (ATSU), who visited Mechukha to know progress of the police investigation, informed that police is still clueless in the death case even after two weeks of the incident.
The ATSU team met the West Siang Deputy Commissioner, Chief Judicial Magistrate and submitted memorandum demanding immediate arrest of the culprit(s) involved in the crime and exemplary punishment for them. The police must apprehend those, who committed the heinous crime within a stipulated time. Otherwise, we will be compelled to launch democratic movement, threatened ATSU. It also demanded to get the case investigated by SIT.
The ATSU team also met Mechukha MLA and urged to rename the Govt. Hr. Sec. School auditorium after Kali Bulo.

ROING, Aug 16: IRE FC lifted the prestigious Naba Ita Pulu Memorial Football Tournament
2015 trophy defeating defending champions Koronu FC 2-
The continuous downpour could not dampen the spirit of soccer fans of the town as they thronged the playground to witness the final match.
Andoko Meto and Moto Pulu scored one goal each for the winning team in the first half itself.
Ihu Mili and Meta Mili, both from IRE FC, were adjudged as the best player and best Goal keeper. Satish Melo of Cheta FC became highest scorers with 11 goals in his credit. The most Disciplined Team award went to Tezu FC.
The winners walked away cash prize of Rs 50,000 with the coveted trophy while the runners up team was given cash prize of Rs. 25000 with a trophy.
Rajya Sabha Member Mukut Mithi, MLA Dr Mohesh Chai, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Horticulture) Mutchu Mithi, Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar, HoDs of various departments and Panchayat members witnessed the final match.
The tournament was organised by the District Football Association and the District Olympic Association, in collaboration with the District Sports Department.

Ray of hope
In what could be termed as an important step against bandh culture, the Gauhati High Court has issued order to Arunachal government based on the petition filed by an Arunachalee citizen. Court has specifically asked the state government to submit report on how many registered and unregistered organizations are there in the state, how many political parties are there in the state which calls bandh and lastly how many bandhs were called during the last three years and how much economic loss has been caused to the state on account of such bandh calls. The court has directed government of Arunachal to submit the report by 24th of this month.
Arunachal has suffered a lot due to bandh culture. As per government estimate which
was made public in the year 2012, state had witnessed bandh in 173 days in the period
between 2001 and 2012. At least 4,168 hours have been affected by bandh calls in
different parts of the state since 2001. By now these figures must have changed for
sure as Arunachal has witnessed more bandh in the last three years. Even though number
of bandh call has reduced considerably in the last one year but government has not
been able to completely wipe out this anti-

Quoting a study of Roger Bilham, a professor of geological sciences at the University of Colorado, US, Akhil said any segment of the Himalayas could generate a great earthquake. The population of India in the foothills has increased by 10 times since the 1905 Kangra earthquake, which killed 19,500 people. Bilham has predicted that at present some 50 million people will be at risk from any big earthquake in the Himalayas.
China has announced that it has completed a major hydropower dam on the Brahmaputra, called Yarlung Zangbo (local name for Brahmaputra), in Tibet having a total installed capacity of 5,100 MW which is positioned over 3300 metre above sea level. In addition to this the Government of the People's Republic of China has approved another three major hydro project on the main stream of Brahmaputra river.
At this juncture, my question is to Gogoi and other agitating organisations, concerning their apprehension on the China's Brahmaputra Hydropower Project over the segment of the Himalayas.

Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to express my view on selecting Pasighat as Model City. Pasighat must have been selected as Model City after properly going through laid down criterion. And we must not rule out that Twin capital Itanagar and Naharlagun of Arunachal Pradesh, were not considered for the purpose. Definitely twin capital must have been first choice for the Model City but may be due to lack of mandatory things, it was not selected like in the case of other towns and headquarters of our state. Every Arunachalee must feel proud of and support such developmental activities for the betterment of our state.

Misplaced facts
Dear Editor,
This is regarding the news article which appeared on Aug. 12th under the caption " AAPSU team meet CS, takes up refugee issue".
First of all, I appreciate the AAPSU team for taking up the refugee issue for the betterment of the future in our state. For this spirit must not end at any cost.
But I felt strong resentment at the immature allegation meted out to one particular tribe: the Yobins.
We are not that foolish to allow anyone to cross into our area! We have a small land to live in! And I wonder if "Yobin" is the only tribe residing in the border areas.
It hurts a lot when the leaders who are our brothers and sisters of the state are indiscriminately hurling resentful things against a particular tribe. It is not wise to discriminate against a particular tribe without having full knowledge of the real facts.
The AAPSU team have narrow knowledge of the matters as they do not seem to know who is a settler and who the indigenous tribe of Vijoynagar circle are.
The team do not seem the know the difference between Yobin and Lisu.
And the team do not seem to know that we possess family dossier.

That was not necessary
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to draw your attention regarding ANSU team's take on Smart City.
Smart city project is not something you demand but given to a place surveyed completely which happens to meet all the criteria given by union ministry of urban development. Moreover, it's awful because rather than being appreciative that at least a place called Pasighat in Arunachal barely qualifies for the smart city project, ANSU is making this hue and cry. The press statement was unnecessary.
